Job Title:  Sr. Network Engineer

Basic Function

Senior Network Engineer works in the Technical Services group within the I.T (Information Technology) department.  This position is responsible for working on the design and implementation of the data network and data security services across the corporate and remote networks for Drury Hotels Company (DHC), LLC.  Works with other members of the I.T department to help monitor and maintain the network security posture of the company.  Involved in both short term troubleshooting and repairs, while also working with the Manger of Data Network Services on longer term strategic infrastructure and network security goals.

Job Duties

  1. Work with the Information Technology team and other stakeholders, to help provide security, stability, capability, and capacity within the DHC network
  2. Understand network vulnerability scans and develop remediation steps
  3. Work with other members of the I.T team with the implementation of projects into service and support
  4. Understand the data structure and relationships between corporate office locations, hotels, and DR Data Center
  5. Configuration of Network Layer 2/3 devices (Access Points, Switches, and Firewall) on all networks in a multi-vendor environment
  6. Design and maintain firewall rulesets, following the principle of least privilege
  7. Configure and troubleshoot Fortinet equipment including Fortigate (Firewall) and Fortiweb (WAF)
  8. Assist in design, configuration and support of hotel WIFI systems
  9. Undertake and lead ‘Root Cause Analysis’ investigations into network faults and performance issues
  10. Work with third party service providers for circuit upgrades, activations and troubleshooting
  11. Monitor LAN/WAN for service availability and utilization
  12. Provide 2nd line support to the I.T helpdesk for network related issues and outages
  13. Respond to incidents and work orders raised on the internal ticketing system
  14. Maintenance of networking equipment and firmware/software patching
  15. Produce and maintain network documentation
  16. Ensure compliance with IT standards, policies, and procedures, including PCI
  17. Perform other duties and special assignments as required or directed
  18. Act in the best interest of DHC in any and all business situations

General Knowledge, Skill and Ability

  • 5+ years’ experience in the configuration, operation and support of an enterprise networking environment
  • Thorough understanding of multi-vendor networks with clear and concise reporting skills.
  • Fortinet ecosystem experience, primarily Fortigate Firewall
  • Technical experience and recent exposure to be able to configure and troubleshoot OSPF and BGP Routing
  • VPN Protocols (including the use of VTI IPSEC tunneling)
  • Wireshark and packet capture
  • Knowledge of WLAN design, layout, and heat map / site survey
  • Deep technical capacity to map & troubleshoot network traffic between multiple remote location and cloud applications
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Desire and ability to learn technologies that are unfamiliar but used by the company.
  • Attention to detail and excellent observational skills
  • Ability to communicate with other technical team members at a conceptual level without a detailed understanding of the specific technical area under discussion.
  • Ability to communicate with non-technical team members about technical issues in a manner which promotes understanding while still providing useful information.

Mental and Physical Requirements

Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of a four-year college degree in Information Systems, Engineering, or Mathematics.

Ability to walk and stand for short periods of time. Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods. Ability to lift 20 to 30 pounds, typical of many office positions. Ability to travel (via car or airplane) as needed, estimated at 10%.

Working Environment

  1. Reports to the Manager of Data Network Services
  2. Works with and mentor’s other team member within the Data Network Services team
  3. Works with the Manager of Technical Security Services to ensure that company data security policies are effectively implemented.
  4. Works with Manager of Server and Storage Services to ensure that the server and storage infrastructure is supported effectively from the network perspective
  5. Works with the Electronics department for cabling requirements, including new construction Wifi needs and existing cabling repairs
