Job Duties

  1. Has a +1 Service attitude and provides courteous, friendly service to all team members and vendors by promptly and efficiently responding to inquiries, requests and concerns.
  2. Protects and handles confidential information on a daily basis.
  3. Responds to team member questions regarding benefits and eligibility in a timely, accurate and friendly manner. Escalates issues to carriers and supervisor as needed.
  4. Responsible for the daily administration of assigned benefit plans and programs, which includes processing weekly and monthly carrier invoices.
  5. Responsible for reviewing and approving benefit elections on a daily basis and ensuring the approvals flow through the HR system and to the benefit carriers.
  6. Generates timely and accurate reports related to assigned benefit plans and programs, including but not limited to terminations, approvals, transfers, wage type reports, etc.
  7. Communicates in a timely, accurate and respectful manner with shareholders, vendors, internal departments and others regarding any/all benefit questions.
  8. Updates procedures and various communication materials with relevant and accurate benefit information.  This could include mass mailings. 
  9. Supports and assists others in the benefits department with related tasks and projects.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

General Knowledge, Skill and Ability

  • Expertise in benefits administration.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret written and oral communications.
  • Ability to write letters, email business correspondence and update procedures/documents related to benefits.
  • Ability to solve problems.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts including but not limited to benefit deductions, short and long term disability calculations and percentages.
  • Ability to speak one on one and in a group setting to collaborate with the benefits/HR team. This includes answering phone calls throughout the day.
  • Maintain confidentiality and communications in a manner that protects our team members and their personal health information.
  • Must demonstrate empathy for internal team members, vendors and others requiring assistance from the benefits department.
  • Exercise good judgment and decision making/problem solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Four year college or university program degree preferred; or Minimum of 3 years of related experience.

  • Reading, analyzing and interpreting written and oral communications; analyzing and solving problems; observing and interpreting situations; learn and apply new information or skills; positively interacting with team members and vendors.
  • Sitting, standing, stretching, bending, typing and lifting objects weighing less than 10 pounds above the shoulders, below the knees or at arm’s length may occur.

Working Relationships

  1. Reports to the Manager of Benefits.
  2. Works closely with all team members and departments to ensure understanding and compliance with all benefit plans and programs.
  3. Supports and serves those requiring assistance from the benefits department.
  4. Maintains and promotes a positive and cooperative working relationship with all team members.
